Question how do you find out about nameservers??

I'm wondering, if someone wanted to find out what hosting company ran the name servers called "crater.myserverhosts.com" or simply the "myserverhosts.com", how could you do that? the reason I'm asking is because I'm still wondering why you need private name servers in the first place...that and I've had a nosy jackass trying to find out who I have my hosting with! this normally wouldn't bother me except he is the kind of guy who would get my reseller plan details and then go and try to steal my customers. Yeah, I said it...jackass.

Thanks for any help.

you don't *need* private name servers as they just are a clone of your servers name servers. There is no stopping anyone from doing a host name lookup to see what the real host name of your name servers and domain is, you get that with any reseller, or dedicated (unless you own your own data center and pay for an ip class). Take a look at the links below:

http://whois.domaintools.com/meltingcube.com
* IP Location - Illinois - Chicago - Fastservers Inc*

http://whois.domaintools.com/74.200.210.14
* Revolve Host: 14.210.200.74.in-addr.arpa.10800INPTRmagellan.myserverhosts.com. *

all of this is publicly viewable information, there is nothing you can do to stop people from snooping around.

Thanks for the info, it would seem that if he is smart enough to find out then I'm S.O.L. The good thing is that as of now all of my clients are very happy with me and would not go to him anyways...besides he would literally have to sell hosting for cost just to compete with me.
Anyways thanks!
