I was reading about some hosting companies creating so called sister host companies which give the impression that its a completely different company yet its owned by an existing hosting company. Should this be allowed ?
Curious what others think about this, I call it flooding the market what happens when we see several hosts all by the same owners can we expect the same service better or worse ? It's a kind of deception if you ask me. What happens if you dislike one host then later fall for an advertisement by another host and you end up with the same owner of the host you had, scary

that is because some people think that expensive products are better, and some people just look for the cheapest one, i used to do it with 2 different market companies...
but what about this... we could even get a list of our hosting websites and create each one a website for advertice our hosting companies ( if we are 20 people, so lets create different 20 advertices websites), could be a nice way to help each other against every non hostnine hosting provider, and could help us to get more customers.. for example... if no one speak spanish, you could refere your customers to me or every other speaking spanish provider of our "alliance" in fact (other example)... probably i could be lossing a canadian customer that would prefer a canadian hosting company, while probably someone here could be living on canada! or probably someone here does something more different (not hosting) that we could refere for a dollar and helping someone here... i think there is nothing to lost, we are already compiting without know if we could make more money together.... just an ilusion idea... It's just another advertising scam. It's a competitive market and some companies have to resort to using such tactics to get market share. It's easier to use marketing schemes than trying to hire qualified support help. Marketing schemes will usually peak and they'll gain alot of new customers but will eventually lose existing customers.
Another scheme is creating a web review page and putting your advertising and glowing reviews but all the reviews are done by people the company paid. The web are full of them. A good company will eventually get noticed mainly by word of mouth. I searched on webhostingtalk and read about alot of different hosting companies. I've read the thread on how someone wrote how horrible HostNine was for shutting him down. There were a few people believing in him but then Rick (I believe) came on and explained what actually happened. The person ran a child pornography site. It showed me that if HostNine is willing to take the time to respond then it showed kind of support they have. Another big plus for me. Most companies would have ignored it and lose several potential customers. |
