Default Other analytics programs - not log file based...

I'm wanting to use a hosted data tagging stat package like Visistat or Google Analytics rather than the log files analyzing.

Two questions:

1. Can I actually NOT have log files created, since they can become HUGE, and with data tagging, unneccessary?

2. Is it possible to integrate a way to set up a page to post the login username/password for the data tag host I use to that site for direct linking to the customer stats?

Thanks
Bryan

Bryan,

I do not know what or why you are seeking this, but if business based the leverage and advantages that these afford you once you learn how to analyze the generated data should far outweigh the DB space used for the tracking.

You can prune that old information once it has served it's purpose and keep the size comewhat controlled.

If you have other reasons you should post what your use is for and why you might feel you cannot afford the space considering the huge advantage it can provide you.

Thanks for the reply Kobra,

I understand the value of log file and log file analysis. In fact I spend waaaay yo much time doing so at my corporate job with Webtrends. I'm just wanting to shift from log file analysis to data tagging (with the JS snippet tracking the visitors actions), since it's a deeper level of analysis and is not hindered by the huge sizes that log files can balloon into.

I want to track:
- screen resolution
- OS and version
- flash player used and what version
- browsers by version
- geographic location of users
- etc.

It's not a problem if the log files are kept. I'll can remove them if they start getting to big.

Thanks
Bryan
