Default Joomla 1.5? Anyone?

Has anyone out there used Joomla 1.5 (on H9 or otherwise)? I was kind of surprised that it still isn't listed in the Fantastico install tool. Is there something wrong with it?

Joomla 1.5 is still in RC (Release Candidate) status. RC-4 is the latest.

Fantastico and other automated installers generally don't provide RC versions of software.

Thanks for the responses. I unwisely purchased a "beginners" book for Joomla that is geared toward 1.5 features, wishfully thinking "1.5 HAS to be ready by now." C'est la guerre.

1.5 is RC but has very little wrong with it - even the stable older version exhibits som glitches...

If just starting out might as well use 1.5 as it is significantly different.

You can get the distro at their site at http://www.joomla.org

I've played with 1.5 since RC4. It's great and looks very promising. It's not recommended for production yet, but it's very close. Depending on what type of development you are doing you may want to check to make sure that your 1.0.13 extensions (modules, components and plugins) have been ported to 1.5. I'm itching to jump to 1.5 but am waiting until it is certified to put it into production.

Yeah, I know... If I was just starting off with Joomla now, I'd start with 1.5 too.

If you want just a simple site with no add-ons then, yes, by all means use Joomla 1.5.

If you're going to want those extras on your site like gallery, forum, community functions, etc. etc. then you'd be better off starting with Joomla 1.0.13.

It'll probably be another year before the extensions for Joomla 1.5 native mode will be as widely available as those for J-1.0.x
