Question Beginner How-To's & FAQ's: Coming Soon

I was browsing the forums & saw that Alex had posted some great How-To's for the H9 community. And with the our customers' varying degrees of experience in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to follow-up with a series of How-To's & FAQ's for our customers that are just starting out with web hosting or maybe just have unanswered questions about one thing or another.

So, if there is anything in particular that you would like to know how to do, or that you already know how to do but think would be of help to others, don't be shy ... suggest it here!

I would like to see a how-to on using the FTP feature when doing a full Cpanel backup.

I was tring to ftp to another account in the same data center.

I have always got a error when I tried. But the full backup was created and put in its /home/username folder

Here is the error:
Can't call method "login" on an undefined value at /usr/local/cpanel/bin/ftpput line 28

Thanks, and welcome to Hostnine Brittany

Hello Greg,

Which node do you get that error on, or do you get that on all of them?

That very well may be a bug in cPanel itself, as I'm sure that's not the most used feature available within cPanel.

If it turns out to be a bug, we could send that over to cPanel to see if it can be corrected.

Thanks!

Thanks, Greg!

Great suggestion! I will indeed create a How-To for this.

Have you checked to make sure that the particular port to be used for this is open?

This would be a ftp to a diff node, diff data center, I have tried 2-3 times, I do not believe it is a Cpanel issue. I think it's a Greg V issue. lol

ok when you do use the ftp option on a Backup in what folder go? Or is this ftp feature
only for off network locations, what I tried was node to node.

Thanks

Yikes, I'm afraid I'm of no help here in that case. The only time I have ever seen this error is when there is an issue with the specific port on the firewall not being open.

Please let us know if you do happen to find the answer in case someone else has the same issue!

Greg,
Couple of things:
I believe that one must have "root" access to be able to use this on the receiving end

Backup Destination: select method
Email Address: enter notification email
Remote Server (FTP/SCP only): server IP
Remote User (FTP/SCP only): Root user name
Remote Password (FTP/SCP only): root user pass
Port (FTP/SCP only): the secure or non secure open port #
Remote Dir (FTP/SCP only): usually "/home"

/home refers to a cPanel home location where only the user logged in as the "root" user has access to - - This is not the account's /home dir
The user dir would be, I believe, /home/user_name

Default Complete setup for Newbies

I would like to see a how to that walks a newbie to RC and WHMCS through the entire process with the setup steps integrated into one document vs needingto read several different documents.

Also it would be great if it included things that don't seem to be covered any where else, like should you and if so how would you add all of the H9 servers into WHMCS Servers in the WHMCS setup.
