Hello everyone,
I would like to have my site reviewed. So far I have only seen my site load in Firefox 3 Beta 2 and Beta 3 (on the Mac) and in Safari 3, also on Mac. http://www.charlesangelis.net Any comments and critiques are gladly welcome and appreciated! Thank you. |

Looks nice.
Internet Exploder (IE6) shows a different font than Netscape !?! Maybe this confuses internet exploder font-family: papyrus, fantasy, georgia, helvetica, arial, verdana, tahoma, sans-serif; In IE6 the "about_freelance.html" page could use use some padding in the td that has "Daya Kay Communications" - text in that box runs to the one on the right of it. {correction: I used Firefox 1.0.7 not Netscape} Last edited by Gene; 03-06-2008 at 01:47 PM. |

Thanks for the input! I'm on a Mac so access to IE6 or 7 is not possible unless I dual-boot my laptop, which I won't be doing any time soon. Why is IE confused by a font-family statement in a CSS? I tried to make it very compatible by listing my chosen font (papyrus) and a general font (fantasy) with common backup options like georgia, helvetica and arial. Those are all common fonts!

I suspect it is because papyrus and fantasy are not usual fonts in Windoz machines and not standard in Micro$oft office. I am not sure yet why Firefox displays papyrus correctly.
As a side note, I remember building a web page with header text that looked great on my machine only to discover later that it looked bad on most other machines. The font I used was not a native font on most Windoz machines. I now know why most graphic designers use Macs. BTW, I also thought the site had a certain "elegant" or rich look by carefull choice of color and design. In this case, less is more. |

Just discovered, Firefox did a different font substitution, it wasn't papyrus after all.

Should I just go back to plane ole Arial? What other fonts does IE recognize?

The only ones I depend on are Times, Arial and Comic Sans MS. IE displayed the text in Times which looked good. Firefox displayed it in something that Microsoft Word calls "OCRATTRegular". I read somewhere that webmasters tend to prefer Arial because they can pack a lot in a small space and readers tend to prefer Times as being more pleasing to read (like most books).

Ok, I've made some changes to my style sheet and am now using this font-family:
font-family: Comic Sans MS, arial, verdana, tahoma, sans-serif; I also made a change to about_freelance.html to balance the cells better. Are things looking good in IE, now? Thanks !! Quote:

Yes, That looks good and is the same in IE and Firefox. That font gives it a relaxed but still professional look. Also the change in spacing between the cells, though small, makes a big difference. The text from the left box no longer looks like it continues in the right box.

Thanks, I really appreciate your guidance. I find it strange though, that out of 124 views, only one person has responded.
