Default Appreciate comments . . .

On my new website. Particularly the forum (click on the main site). I'm concerned it's a little on the dark side. So having people view it with different monitors would be helpful. All points of view welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, some constructive comments....

LOVE the look. Works very well. But lets take a look at the source code shall we?

Code:
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>main page3</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#990000">
<!--url's used in the movie-->
<!--text used in the movie-->
<!-- saved from url=(0013)about:internet -->
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="780" height="600" id="main page3" align="middle">
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
<param name="movie" value="main page3.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#990000" /><embed src="main page3.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#990000" width="780" height="600" name="main page3" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
</object>
</body>
</html>
Now a little discussion on SEO and SEM needs to follow. Thats search engine optimization and marketing for those who don't like acronyms.

Add meta tags and toss in some HTML comments for added text. Search engines can't read text withing flash files.

That mostly applies to your main page..., oh, and add text links too, at the bottm perhaps so search engines can crawl through your site. Right now they can't get past the first page. Unless you use google sitemaps, but that doesn't help yahoo etc....

Overall, 7/10!!! Good job.

Thank you! I forgot all about meta tags. They're on all the other pages except my front door.

I really don't want to put text links on the front page and spoil the look. I'll think on that one. Why can't those little bots get to all my other pages?

I often wondered if search engines would pickup on links within <div>s that are not displayed (hidden, set to background color - how ever you want to hide them). That would take care of getting the text into the engines without spoiling the look.

Off the main page (I'm looking at "primer" at the moment) I see the text links on this page do not refer to the site by name, but use the IP instead.
<a href="http://66.49.226.244/heritage/primersectionC.pdf">
This will hurt SEO as well.

Also I note on several pages, the copyright date is 2008. It is not yet 2008. Also the site has been around since 1999 apparently, so you should copyright it from 1999-2007.

Along the same lines, on the aboutus page, you list that the site earned an award in 1997. Is this accurate?

On the "Primer" page, I see: "To receive the patterns for Book Five:
use your PayPal account (id dianne@he....shoppe.com) or send check or money order in the amount of..."

You should make a quick pay button for this.

My, you are thorough.

The pdf links go to an IP address because that's just a storage site, not a domain.

I didn't think I'd have the site complete and on line until 2008. Close enough. I probably won't get through tweaking it until then, anyway. I thought about saying copyright from 1996 to 2007 but decided not to crow about my time on line. People steal my stuff no matter what I say.

Yes, the award was given in 1997.

I'll look into the quick pay button.

I really do appreciate the comments. And I will look into hiding the links, as well. I do wonder, too, if that will suffice.
