Default FTP - Too many connections?

Hello all,

I'm attmepting to upload several thousand (4000+) files onto various nodes. I'm using FileZilla to FTP into each respective account location.

I keep getting a refused connection because it says there are "too many connections from this IP".

I'm not sure what is causing this, or how to stop it, but it was never a problem with my past host. It can be annoying since it slows the transfer down a bit.

Is there a way to prevent this? I need a reliable way to upload files to the server in an efficient manner. Thanks!

Βy the way, if you are on a linux server you can zip those files and upload them as one file and then extract the file on you account through cpanel. It's easy and fast that way.

This is absolutely correct.

Uploading 4000+ files individually will take an excessive amount of time as the server has to open a connection, upload the file, close the connection, etc...

Uploading one large file and extracting it once again is the faster method as not only are you skipping several thousand steps, you are able to utilize the full bandwidth pipe available to you by your Internet Service Provider.

I am on a unix platform hosted account but for the last couple days I've been experiencing FTP outages that last ~10mins at a time sporatically throughout the day. I've set filezilla to only use a max of 5 concurrent connections and it still does it.. anyone have an idea about what gives?

This has also been happening to me lately. It's not just FileZilla, though. I use Dreamweaver as well and you CAN NOT put or get an entire site now.

It's all well and good to zip your entire site and unzip it, but what if I'm getting a site that is already up onto a new computer?

This is the first time since being with HostNine that I have been concerned about moving my operations from my previous provider.

I had a FTP problem and Alex asked how many connections I had with filezilla. I thought 1 but then found I was using 2. Alex said more than one looks like an attack and automatic scripts may block you. Since I changed to 1 the problem is gone, Alex had the correct solution to my ticket.
