If we're being realistic and not overselling or anything, what would you guys say is the maximum ammount of customers you could have before you really needed to move to a VPS or a dedicated server?

I've had 25-30 accounts hosted at one time before and was only half full on my resources.
It really comes down to what your users are uploading. If they're people that just want a website hosted that you designed and they don't do any email or FTP through you, you could host thousands, I'm sure. If you have tech savvy people that use their web-space as a means to file share, then obviously the number will change significantly. You can limit the amount of space and bandwidth any of your accounts have, thus you can, more or less, host as many sites as you want. |
