Question Some questions about Linux hosting

Hello,

I am looking to replace my home server with a shared Linux server, but I have some questions:

1) I have some additional software requirements that aren't covered on the web hosting page. I will need to run photo organizer (po.shaftnet.org), which runs mainly in PHP and PostgreSQL. BTW, thank you for having PostgreSQL. What is the likelihood that I could get the following programs installed without going to a dedicated server?
-Exiftool (ExifTool by Phil Harvey), which extracts the metadata from jpegs. I think most distributions carry the package.
-DCRaw (Decoding raw digital photos in Linux), which works with RAW files. This one is not a requirement but would be nice. It should also be a standard package.

2) Is it possible to upload a non-CA certified SSL cert and use it? I don't need an official cert, but I would like to enter passwords to my site securely.

3) Can I use a domain that I own (jeffrobins.com) without moving my registration here?

Thank you,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your interest in HostNine.

-DCRaw (Decoding raw digital photos in Linux), which works with RAW files. This one is not a requirement but would be nice. It should also be a standard package. Are those PHP plugins or standalone tools we will have to compile/install?

2) Is it possible to upload a non-CA certified SSL cert and use it? I don't need an official cert, but I would like to enter passwords to my site securely. Yes that is not a problem.

3) Can I use a domain that I own (jeffrobins.com) without moving my registration here? Yes, by changing the name servers to ours you can keep your registration at it's current registrar.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Exiftool is a perl library with an executable wrapper script. If necessary, Compilation and installation easy:
perl Makefile.PL
make test
sudo make install

DCRaw is an executable. If there is no standard package, then it will need to be compiled from the single "dcraw.c" file found on the website using one of the following commands:

gcc -o dcraw -O4 dcraw.c -lm -ljpeg -llcms
gcc -o dcraw -O4 dcraw.c -lm -DNO_JPEG -DNO_LCMS

The second line disables decoding of Kodac DC120 files and disables the use of colorspace files.

Thank you,

--Jeff

Jeff,

That's not a problem at all. We can definitely get those installed on your server for you upon sign up.
