Question Mailing Lists

How do the available Mailing Lists work?
Is this just a list of addresses, which any mail to the "mailing list" address gets forwarded to?

If that is the case, then any Spam which got sent to the "mailing list" address would get forwarded to my entire list. Not good for business!

Or, is there some method of qualifying what mail gets sent to the list?

Also, how do I add/delete names to the list?
How many names can I have on a list?
Can I send e-mails with attachments to the list?

look into the mailman package and you'll find your answers.

http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/index.html

you create the lists using the cpanel.

To avoid spam, you can create closed lists where only those members on the list can send to it.

Remember that H9 has a 250 emails per hour per domain - which will include the 'one message to the list' going out to the "n" number of list members.

I have found the emailer pommo a very good script, this is not on the crap you get off fantasitico. http://pommo.org/Main_Page

It is a lite program with throttle settings, and I used it on H9 servers last summer for 6 months, now I am coming back to H9 and plan on using it on 3 sites and do not for see any issues.

Just a quick side note:
Those of you who think the grass is greener on the other side and pursue other hosting you will be coming back to H9.

I plan on a coming back to H9 post when everything is done, don't want to pat to many backs before the work is done.

I found some more info under cpanel in the knowledgebase. It seems that the limit is now 500 emails per hour. This is a problem, since our mailing list is 700 names. Even if we use some other mailing program (e.g.: PHP List, pommo) with throttle, this may be a problem. There are times where we need to send out two or three e-mails to our list in a short time. Three e-mails to the list would take over four hours.

Then there is no question that this will not work for us.

I never have liked Mailman, its too bloated and to nutty, I like the plain old simple mail lists, you add people then you send an email to list@address.com, It would be nice if host used simple scripts vs complicated ones.

majordomo, I thought, was a bit simpler than mailman - but I grew to live with mailman (my presales question was related to mailing list software and it was 'suggested' that majordomo could be installed - the pre-sales person was wrong...
