A lot of hosts do this - it's not them that's charging for the support, it's ModernBill themselves.

H9 buy the licenses for the software cheap; passing on to you for nothing. At least you get the software for free (so how can it be a rip off).

Where does it say they don't know how to install it?

There are lots of walkthroughs on here, and the best instructions to follow are modernbills. You can contact them if you get really stuck

Would you prefer that you have to go out and purchase the license and still be stuck with installing or pay MB the $50 for them to install on top of the license fee?

I really like HostNine. And Modernbill looks promising. But I think what causes so much frustration, with all new accounts, (me included), is the sales pitch on the H9 Reseller/Billing Software page. I mean, come on...it does lead someone to the idea that you get this program already working in your account. And that you just create a few packages and prices and your off and running.

Maybe if H9 didn't say some of the things they say on the sales page, it would be a little easier when reality hit.

This is true. But you also have to setup Modernbill and configure several modules. Not just "hosting plans and prices". As a first time user, it took me several weeks to figure it all out. But that's because it's such a strong program.

"'any' ModernBill-related issue..."? Some issues they did help me, but many I worked with Modersupport.

My Modern-Bill is pretty much setup now. I am doing the testing. And I did get some good help from H9. But I use Modernsupport most of the time. I don't think H9 should provide support for MB unless it's directly related to our account, cPanel, RC, servers, etc. at H9. But they should make that clear up front. I think the free license to use MB is value enough.

And lastly, maybe the H9 welcome letter should include a bit more information. Such as a checklist of things that need to be done, in order to bring all those features to life. Not everyone has Reseller experience. It can be very confusing starting off.

Just my experience.

This thread is not fair towards HostNine at all. We do know how to install it, at least most of us do. But as we state, we do not provide support for ModernBill. We provide you the license free of charge. Everything else is up to you. There is plenty of documentation to install it flawlessly. There are websites which will install/configure modernbill for you, at a price.

I apologize if you are unhappy about this situation, but we don't support this product. We didn't develop it. We offer it free to our resellers so they have better tools starting off in the hosting industry.

Talking Just Take the Free MB

The best deal I found when I was shopping for a license was 15.00/month - thats a chunk of change to add to your monthly overhead.

If I need custom stuff, I use modern-help (great service and prices),the rest I slowly picked up (and continue to pick up) on my own.

I dont know of any provider (except the turn-key junk that take a big taste of each sale) that provides both professional billing software as well as set up.

BTW - when when I first came on board months ago I ran into a technical snag and Alex actually did install my original MB.

So they do know how to install just fine, it's just not part of the package nor do they make any claim that it is part of the package when you sign up.

Exactly, there is no claim that we install or provide support for it. Sure, we're damn qualified to do it (we have over 2000 licenses I believe now for MB) - but we don't have to, especially when there's a lot more pressing stuff around here to get fixed up first.

Default Confusion?

I think were the confusion comes in is the was and place you tell people what you get with a reseller account:

"Tell Me More!
Our reseller program puts YOU in control: you can host unlimited websites in locations all throughout the world, set your own packages/prices, and customize your name server/customer control panel. Get up and running for under $20 with our complete solution, which includes aFREE merchant account/domain reseller account, FREE ModernBill billing software and FREE cPanel control panel. You'll also get a FREE website builder with 300 professional templates and FREE Fantastico, which allows you to set up blogs, forums, surveys, classified ads systems, shopping carts... at no cost."

Everything in this discription comes preinstalled except for Modernbill and it is pretty obvious you intended it that way to make people think its preinstalled, I think you should emphasize that the account holder needs to install MB themselves, and you only supply the free license..and NO support. BUT you do not state that.

The reason you keep it this way is, it's harder for them to leave once they have their accounts tranfered over to H9

Hiya,

No where in that statement does it even come close to saying all of that is pre-installed.
