Everything in this discription comes preinstalled except for Modernbill and it is pretty obvious you intended it that way to make people think its preinstalled, I think you should emphasize that the account holder needs to install MB themselves, and you only supply the free license..and NO support.
My emphasis...

I beg to differ with your conclusion... as all the higllighted items require your intervention and it does state free software with no mention of being installed or configured for any of it and it does elude to the fact that you must intervene with:

It is in the list of "free, preinstalled featured" items, nowhare does it state the customer has to install it, or have to go ModernBill for support.

If you did not want to confuse/mislead potential customers you would state all the facts in that section.

My point is equal to Kobra, it doesn't say it's pre-installed, nor does it imply that, and it's not in the list of anything that's preinstalled.

Everything in this list is preinstalled, you make it sound like modernbill will be there like Cpanel is, like fantastico is, geez they are even in the same sentence "FREE ModernBill billing software and FREE cPanel control panel". Cpanel is preinstalled as everybody knows, so according to that sentence Modernbill must preinstalled aslo.

Hiya,

We're not going to change the wording there, so far I've had everyone replying to this thread saying they see it the same way, I concur, we do not make it seem like that at all, I'm sorry you feel that way.

Post Installation services

Hello all,

I am going to put my two cents in on this :-) Host9 does not in anyway offer free installation of your billing software its just simply added to the list of "free" software that is provided w/ your reseller account, now on another note, I myself offer professional installation / configuration / customization services for your modernbill system, I have helped countless number of host9 clients successfully get there billing system up & running from branding w/ there labels, & from fully automating the system for production saving the customer tons of money in the long run, & also nerves from being wrecked so if anyone is looking for any the above services, just buzz me on AIM or MSN contact information below :

The FTC does have rules on bait advertising, although I don't think this is the case, I do feel it comes close. Close enough that someone from HostNine should review the advertising policies and maybe seek legal consul in the area of trade practices. Especially note the regulations in Title 16 of the Code of Federal Regulations from the FTC.

I don't want to see HostNine change the wording, because it will leave this great company uncompetitive.

Although, I do want to see in the future for HostNine to have ModernBill come with an easy installer.

Well, I don't know why this argument about the FREE, might I add FREE Modernbill license exists.
I have been with H9 for a few months now and have been pleased with the web hosting and got a FREE (enphasizing FREE) modernbill license along with it. I have attempted to use MB with no success, but no biggie. If I were to purchase MB and I couldn't install it, then I would be f-ing pissed; but no, it's FREE, what's wrong with a FREE modernbill license? hmm?

(You can put this as a testimonial that you guys are AWESOME, and you don't delete posts threatening your company ... I love you.)

Cool

Borghunter, I think most people are unhappy because they felt they were lead into thinking that the Billing Software was free and installed. There are people who host websites for profit on the side. Most are web designers, like myself, who hosts their clients sites. We don't have time to prepare invoices 1-3 times a week. So the Billing Software is a huge selling point to a lot of people.

NineHosts advertises the Billing Software along and side-by-side with cPanel. Most people have come to known cPanel as free software that comes installed with almost all packages. By association, I and some others have gone and follow-suit-assumed that the Billing Software does come pre-installed just like cPanel.

NineHosts also states with the Billing Software "you can be up and running within minutes" on their website. Which is true if the servers are set up correctly. Installation notes provided by developers of the billing software are only specific to those who have root access to a server. If you want instructions on how to install it on a hosted account, you have to contact ModernBill's support center which takes about half a day for a reply.

So yes it's free but it's not as easy as HostNine claims the install to be. Are NineHost's advertising practices deceitful? That question is actually irrelevant because of their 30 day money back guarantee. Some might argue that old bait and switch scam, but if you're stupid enough to fall for that.... well then you deserved to be fooled.

UPDATE! I finally got ModernBill to install. It actually takes 5 minutes once you know what to do. Anyone should be able to do it. It's just you need to know what to do with the .htaccess file and make sure that tech support has the correct settings in php.ini on your node. If the install doesn't work, ask tech to make sure the php.ini has the correct settings! Otherwise you'll spend two days like me troubleshooting.
