Default open_basedir

I'm getting modernbill whinge at me because "open_basedir should NOT be set in your php.ini file to allow proper connection between the billing system and the Server API."

Does it actually matter? I'm guessing not, but is it possible to disable it via .htaccess?

Cheers,
Liam

Additionally, i've had to set my secure connection url to the same as my standard one because i dont currently have an ssl certificate - How has everyone else gone about this? Is an ssl cert a must? If so, where's the best place to grab one from that wont cost me my first born!

Liam,

A SSL from GeoTrust can be as low as $15-16 US and this is not the one I would suggest if you intend on accepting CC's on your site but if only to provide a secure connection for sensitive info about your clients account it would be acceptable. I believe that this one is named "Positive SSL".
