Default What do you think about SoftLayer?

We're thinking about moving some of our Texas stuff over to SoftLayer's Dallas, Texas facility mainly because they have a very strong network and the tools they offer us allow us to basically do anything we want to a server besides swap hardware on our own. We have never seen a remote reboot fail and their remote KVM has helped us track down numerous problems in the past rather than waiting on the data center to advise us.

This would involve all of the Texas nodes in Reseller Central, and an optional move for dedicated server customers as we can even implement their API into billing allowing customers to reboot servers, and much more.

Rather than make the decision on our own, we thought we would ask our community what they thought first.

Hello Ben

You state this would involve ALL of the Texas Nodes. Is this a move away from The Planet?

When would this happen?

I thought The Planet had remote reboot?

No ETA's as of now still in talks as we're having issues with hardware at the planet and upgrades.

It would involve all of the Texas nodes in RC and the planet's remote reboot never seems to work for us.

So I guess the upgrade on node 32 will happen via the move to softlayer? So you will we waiting on node 32 upgrade to see if you move or not?

I'm developing a new system to notify about network news, server moves, etc so it's not confusing to customers. Should have something solid up and running this week.

I am all in, as you do know I was reticent about your move to The Planet...

1. What type of deals will you get through SL for dedicated servers?
2. And how will this affect your prices for same?
3. Do you currently have Network IDS/IPS Protection at the Planet?

I am supposing that this will be for us with dedi's after your primary equipment has been moved but how rapidly can one expect one to be provisioned after you are complete?

If you have preliminary pricing you can PM me with it

I will have pricing tomorrow for the clients. I am putting together an AWESOME package for dedicated customers that want to migrate to softlayer. You will even have remote reboot in your billing area and other great tools. As stated before it's definitely an optional move for dedicated customer as there isn't anything wrong with the planet they are a great company we just wish to utilize the softlayer network and tools.

Looking at this again, will this also include the named servers or only the Nodes?
