Default Spam!

Hiya,

Just wondering if anyone else has been receiving a lot of spam over the past 2 days? None of my e-mail addresses are listed anywhere and i've taken precautions with not just putting "dave@domain.com".

But I have 6 different e-mail accounts coming into my outlook, and all of them have received much the same messages.. Qualsec investments, and loads of porn ones..

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this at the moment.

Dave

Horrible amounts of spam lately.
I don't understand how they have got accounts that I don't let out there.
It seems that they have a way of finding them that I cannot account for.

are they really obscure addresses, or something common like sales@domain or something - because some spammers guess addresses

Spam only gets worse and worse each day. It is possible to determine what email accounts exist and which ones dont. They start by guessing the common accounts sales@, support@, webmaster@ etc.. Then they run checks to see which email accounts of those are alive, this can be done several thousand times a day.

The best ways of protection against spam are preventitve, add verification checks to your online forms. Never ever opt-in for email news letters (unless they are from h9, we rule). Never spell out your email address in plain text. Bots can run through your site's source code and pick out addresses quite easily. Use the mail options in cPanel. Spam assassin can be your friend when properly configured. Set up folders and filters in your email so important emails go to their own folder.

Even we deal with spam in our own personal emails, I get quite a few here with HostNine and even more with carriers like gmail. The internet is one of those things where there isnt much to prevent you from making bad choices. Spam is usually but not exclusively the result of not taking the time to secure your email accounts and who gets those addresses. There is nothing we can do when someones address gets on a hundred mailing lists for viagra.

All of my e-mail addresses are . seperated.. I.e. contact.us@domain.com, or d.carter.uk@domain.com etc etc.

Spam sucks! It's mainly a lot of UCSO stuff at the moment (United Consortium) e-mails. Didnt some spammer get caught recently and got fined massively for stock related spam?

Every time I signup for newsletter or free stuff, I use a peice of crap email address like gmail cuz it has 6GB space and let it fill up and it'll auto delete within 30 days. Last time I checked few days ago and I had over 4000 emails since months, yes!

My suggestion for to make lesser spam, use free email address like yahoo or gmail not your domain !
