Let me just start by saying that I know we were warned well in advance for the PHP4 to PHP5 upgrades, and so I have no excuse for not having read the notices.
However, I'm sure I wasn't alone with having not read them or ignored them. So when the move came this weekend it was abit of a shock as the CMS I use to run a couple of my sites is still base don PHP4 (yes I know...). My issue wasn't the switch but the timing. As the CMS hasn't got aPHP5 version out yet I need to continue running this PHP4 version, and so need to move the sites to another host temporarily while I find a new CMS to move the sites onto. My problem with the timing is that you did the switch the day before a public holiday across much of the world so getting the sites moved has been pretty much impossible.Meaning downtime of afew days, which could have been under 24 hours on a normal day. Can I request that any major changes like this in the future, whilst also giving us plenty of notice as you have this time, you also do it on a Monday, giving your users a chance at sorting any issues that do arise out more quickly. |

The notice for the updates were posted on March 31, 2009.. http://www.hostnine.com/hosting-foru...html#post16376 And the reason they are not done on Monday is NickH does not work on Mondays and Tuesdays. Hope this helps Greg V |

I wasn't complaining about the lack of notice at all. I take full responsability for not having read the notices that were posted.
However, I was just saying that if the updates were performed early on in a week (and certainly not just before a public holiday), then users have a better chance of minimising their downtime. It was more of a request for future large scale updates to be done at a time when users have a chance to react if they haven't seen the notices. |

I am not saying this to be a smartass, compared to other hosts these were perfect, and yes I do keep track. Greg V |
