Default No green datacenter?

Hi.

I was wondering if you have any plans on adding a green datacenter to your locations.
I think that green hosting will become the next big thing and the potential is enormous at this time.
I believe california has a wind and solar powered datacenter, and somewhere in the UK also.

One has to be carefull as quite some datacenters are "compensating" their CO2 usage by buying green certificate etc. and calling themselves green...

Only a carbon-free datacenter is acceptable for this concept. A datacenter powered by wind turbines or solar panels that cover all their enery consumption.

Compensating their CO2 usage by buying a green certificate is the same thing as purchasing green energy in terms of final CO2 usage in the world.

A token green server sounds good.

Get "REAL"

What happens if the wind don't blow or the sun don't shine?

Do you use any "modern" items like glass, aluminum, steel, etc.?

Do you want to give them up?

There's plenty of wind and solar panels generate electricity even on cloudy days...

However, it's not about being "real" and I do not have a "green" agenda... but it's about marketing and which markets are ready to be explored today...

Hi,

This already has been discussed, and there are no plans for this at this time. We don't think the government is doing a good job by any means, but at this time we are letting them worry about this. We have plenty of work to do already

Green Datacenter is really a waste, WE have better things to do like help the crisis like Iowa flooding, Califorina wildfires, etc.. Help them NOT focus on core Green Datacenter, too much work, let goverment take care of our air IF they care

If there are two web hosts charging the same price, but one is green, customers may choose the green host.

But green servers are more expensive and it's unlikely people will pay more for it.

It's unlikely green data centers will ever be considered unless you can find one that is as competitive as the most competitive non green data centers.

In fact they should be less expensive as they don't have a huge energy bill, as they generate energy themselves...

So why is it more expensive?
1) because they are new into business and have a lot of infrastructure and setup costs
2) people in favor of green initiatives are actually willing to pay more! not me though...

I was just hoping a big company like H9 could be the first to bring down those prices... unfortunatly it'll be another company, but H9 is still N#1 on my list of who-will-be-my-next-host... Just a pitty that I will miss out a huge market where "cheapest" is not the only, nor the first creteria for selecting a supplier.

So here's some thought for josephp:
What if, like some people try to tell us, those floodings and wildfires are occuring more often as a result of a sick environment? Wouldn't offering green hosting be considered as helping them?
don't worry, I'm just pulling your leg...

I can see this going the wrong way already. The last time someone suggested this it got ugly, so I'm going to close this before that happens.

It's a great idea, but one whose time has not come yet.
