Default Cron Limitations

Hi,

I've noticed we have a lot of cron abuse going on, running far too many crons every minute that don't need to be run every minute.

My question to you advanced users is this, if we start suspending those who use every minute, are you going to be affected? As long as we announce 1-2 weeks in advance?

It would be best to have crons set to run at a max of every 15 minutes rather than one minute. This shouldn't affect any software and should help stabilize server loads as well.

Running a cron every minute is quite a lot for a share hosting environment. I also run a dedicated server in my office which runs most of my crons - and i'd think twice before running a cron every minute. Realistically very little needs to be run every minute, and if it's that important you should get a dedicated/vps solution.

Though is it not possible to set the server up so that the minimum cron time is every 5 minutes or something?

I'll talk to our coding guys here, and see if we can't send some sort of global command to edit the crontabs that have * * * * * in them to */15 * * * *

I'm also a cron noob and I agree with budgetman. Please let me know if we're not running them correctly. I appreciate the help/advice you and the other H9 admins provide. Thanks for the thread.

You can open a ticket with the cron details before you actually enable it for H9 review...
This is what I have been doing
