No More Front Page/Expression?
I awoke this morning to find that none of the sites created using Front Page or Expression would publish. When I inquired, I was informed that cPanel decided it will no longer support it as (as you rep put it) "its a dead program". FP is used by tens of thousands and is supported until 2009. Similarly, Expression is backword compatible woth FP 2003. FP/Expression is a workabale alternative for people who want more than "site builder" functionality, but are not full scale web programmers. Your adeveritsement still claims to support "all versions of Frotn Page": http://www.hostnine.com/reseller-hosting/ So what is going on with this? H9 is no longer an option for those who want to publish with FP2003 or Expression? I've stated this in other posts, but H9 resellers can not compete with GoDaddy or H9 itself, who can offer outrageous disk space and bandwidth for 5.00 a month. Our ability to resell hinges on Site Building software (SW has never worked correctly and every user I have shown RV to was put off by the cheesy tempaltes) or relatively easy alternatives such as FP. What's the deal?

I have a customer who once used frontpage - I talked them out of it because my hosting solution was NOT MS based and a few years back there was talk of the FP extensions going away.
If I relied on FP, I would be looking for a hosting solution that was MS based and not Linux based. Should H9 remove it from their ads? Yup. Brian |

FrontPage works perfectly fine on cPanel servers but was issued an end of life so there hasn't been any updates for the extensions. Please submit a ticket if you're having issues

I Didn't Kill My Own Site

When I woke up this morning and tried to add some text to my sites and niether would publish, your rep told me it FP was no longer supported becuase Cpanel stopped support. Whats more - when I went into cPanel the extensions had been removed from my primary selling account on Crater (Application-Outsource). Im quite certain I didn't do this myself. I have submitted a ticket. Thank you, David Ghedini |

I do offer Windows hosting on my site via another provider, but I actively try to disuade them from opting for Windows hsoting in my pre-sales FAQ. Having the advantges of cPanel and a Linux platform that allowed users who like FP to continue using it was a very attractive package. There is a reason why every reseller (Linux and otherwise) lists FP extensions as a feature - a lot of people like it. Even people who dont like Windows. Both the software and the templates are a workable alternative to shelling out 1000.00+ for professional design services. It's also cheaper than Dreamweaver and there are ample templates available. Thanks again for you input, David Ghedini |

I agree with the dreamweaver costs... but I also recall the early days of FP when it would take my hand-coded html and totally destroy it!

Hi,
Keep in mind we have no choice in this, this is CPanel's call. |

Ghedini,
Just bumping in here - Just where is this not being seen? I am on a cp11 server and I see the FP Extentions option - While I do not and have never used FP - I am just curious if this has actually been removed or if H9 has not enabled it on some servers? |

Hi,
It's enabled everywhere. But we cannot provide technical support for it, as it's starting not to work on a lot of CPanel servers with the new Expression (a.k.a. Frontpage 2007) |

Don't know and still don't know: yesterday morning I pulled a bunch of errors (No Extensions Installed, etc....). When I went to look at the cPanel, sure enough no extensions were installed. I cleaned and re-installed them last night and was able to publish. The second site (which did show extensions installed) was getting the same errors. In such a case, I would normally say say fine, it's server issue. Wait a few and if it doens't fix itself open a ticket. But the fact that the extensions were somehow removed from the one site is what can't be explained. What I can say for certain is that I sure didn't remove them myself. |
