Default Computer Graphics / Display Question - Help

Hello,

I have restored windows XP on my other (home) computer. On my other (home) computer the disk drive is not working. So i took the hard drive out and placed it into my office computer then restored xp using the office disk drive. The display is fine when the hard drive is plugged into my office computer.

But when i place the hard drive back into my home computer the display only shows up as 4 bit and every thing is huge. I have right clicked when into properties and fiddled on with things in there but nothing is working. My monitor is plug and play.

Any Ideas?

"On my other (home) computer the disk drive is not working. "

When you say disk drive I assume you mean The CD ROM ...

The correct Display Adapter for the home computer needs to be installed.

Unless your office computer and home computer are EXACTLY the same (ie...Dell GX240 ...Dell GX240) your troubles have just begun. When you installed XP on your office computer it set up the hardware drivers for that computer and unless the two computers are the same you are going to have a LOT of wrong drivers. You may even have some XP registration issues now.

Your best bet would be to Put the CD Rom from your office computer into the home computer and reinstall windows XP from scratch. If you want to try to fix your problem(s) one by one:

Display Adapter:
Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Settings Tab (top), Advanced Tab(bottom right), Adapter Tab (top) Properties, Driver Update Driver.

Other Hardware:
Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager

Good Luck and don't forget the Snickers Bar
