Hi All...
New to the forums here!!! I've been doing a fair bit of research for a hosting service...and find HostNine to be extremely impressive...I particularly like the "no overselling" policy...which always seems to be the Achilles' Heel of most reasonably-priced shared hosting services...and the H9 customer service appears to be outstanding on all levels! I'm on the verge of committing to H9...but... There is only one niggle I've run up against...the speed of the Iowa-based server...on the H9 Speed Test page...the Iowa server seems to be consistently 80% to 90% slower than the Chicago-based server...I have run tests at varying times of the day and night over the past week...and the Chicago server's 10 MB download always performs admirably in the 4000 Kb/s range...which is pushing the upper limit of my cable DSL connection...however...the same 10 MB download performance from the Iowa server usually ranges from 400 Kb/s to 800 Kb/s...there have been just 2 or 3 tests where the Iowa server achieved about 2800 Kb/s... The 1 MB download speed tests for both servers are comparable to each server's 10 MB counterpart... I am located in Northeast Texas...and my ISP is Suddenlink (formerly Cox)... Any ideas on the speed disparity??? Last edited by interFUZZ; 04-02-2009 at 02:29 PM. |

Hello,
I spoke to you over the phone, but in case someone else has the same question, I'll post the answer. Basically, these speedtest sites use different providers in different locations. Say for example one may use Comcast, one my use Verio, and one may use Cox. If one is having a problem connecting to us they will show issues, while others may work just fine. |
