Question SW Site Builder Publish Settings

Hi - I can see from the forum posts that A LOT of people are having trouble with the settings for publish with the SW Site Builder.

I am not different! I have tried everything suggested in the forum posts from chmod settings, to server IP addresses etc... and still I get the errors saying unable to publish.

I am on crater server. I have put in all of the details as I can see them for FTP access, and I cannot get the site to publish.

Does anyone have a screenshot or list of the syntax and specs for publishing SW Sitebuilder sites within the H9 environment?

I have completely configured the Sitebuilder in terms of Packages, Users, Sites, Hosts, and Trials, so I get right to the publish stage and it all falls over...

I dont want to us RV or any other builder.. I really like the look and feel of SW Sitebuilder so any help from anyone at H9 or H9 user base would be appreciated.

Yes i get a few different errors depending on what i try...

I choose crater.myserverhosts.com, i have also changed the entry to an ip address, i choose say http://ozeshops.com.au for the url and /public_html/dir or www/dir and i get the following type of errors...

Cannot find site files at http://ozeshops.com.au/ The specified site URL does not match the other publication settings.

I am sure its something really easy to fix, i just need to know the proper syntax to use so that when i get client sites i just use the same method... any help would be appreciated... also it seems that if the url http://sitebuilder.ozeshops.com.au is used, someone can take the signup right through anonymous and publish a site! I have trial plans and they restrict access but only through the trial link, or through a login...

Anyway, first I need to be able to publish!

Publication mode: FTP
Host (IP address or DNS name): The ip that came in your welcome email
Web site URL: http://yoursite.com/
Working directory: /public_html
Authentication type: ftp account username & password

This is what I use

All of the publishing errors that I received When I had problems with SiteBuilder were solved by fixing permissions. Open an FTP client and login to your site and look at the public_html folder and see if you are the owner or if it is set at "99" which is "nobody" and will not let you publish to it and will give the error "no site files" . BUT, you must call support and have them change the permission, you cannot change it yourself.Hope this helps.

Thanks for your posts regarding this problem - i discovered the problem... You must write to the /public_html folder or publishing will fail..

Thanks for all of the tips and suggestions regarding this.

I followed this and it won't work:
it says "This has not been published"
and "Cannot find site files at http://mysite.com/. The specified site URL does not match the other publication settings."

Or is it because i bought the webhost and domain on July 2, 2007. may be its not fully done... should i wait 1 or 2 more days and try it again?

You should be able to use it right away. The main thing to be sure is to use:-

http://whateveryourdomainis.com (without the www)
make sure you use :- /public_html/ as the folder
make sure you use your ftp usrname and pwd as specified in your welcome email.
Via an FTP client - make sure that the permissions are not read only for folder owner.

Can you see your site has been provisioned in WHM and/or cPanel?

One of my clients was getting the same error message.

The bottom line (as I understood it after multiple tickets), is that SW Site Builder is simply not reliable.

I transferred her image gallery (which appeared to be the source of the error) into an actual page for her.

Unless something has changed (or is going to) using SW is just asking for trouble.

Thats a bummer because the templates are so much nicer than RV site builder, but there it is........

I've been looking into possibly purchasing a good sight building package and making it avialable to my clients.

People with little web experience who are looking for point-and-click web building are the fatest growing market in hosting.

So its hard to complete without a good site builder.

Just to end on a positive note - If you are a complete newbee (as I was when I started) - Ill pass the advice Travis gave me and has worked out very well for me: for all the modules (ecommerce, forums, galleries, etc...) learn how to install them yourself via cpanel. Its not that hard and no site building sofwtare has truly reliable mdules for these things. The modules in you cpanel are also 100 times better than the site builinding ones on every front. For my customers, I am adding tutorials on how to add these things on thier own. It really isnt difficult!

Bets of luck-
David Ghedini

BTW - I have only had this issue when clients tired to install special pages (Galleries, Blogs, etc...). Try dumping them if they are there. All of those features can be installed with Fantastico and, as I said, they are better quality anyways. The easiest thing is just create a subdomain and install the feature there. Than you can link it to your SW site.
