Default VPS Servers

Firstly, I have to say Hostnine provides me excellent support!

today, one of my site got suspended due to high traffic and it's causing the high load on the server, the support tech recommended me to get a dedicated server.

however at this point my budget is limited, and dedicated servers are little high too me.

I really wish to see VPS service again, so Hostnine can have all packages available to different budget customers.

Thanks!

hi,
I think VPS is not a good jump if you got a high load.
as i know (if i am not wrong), VPS only give advantage in root access. Just like having own machine (virtual). But one VPS user still using shared resource (like physical RAM, Proc) with another VPS user.
If the load still high, and the budget for dedicated still not possible. I suggesting to make inspection in your site. Try to make a little limitation on it (mybe).

I agree with harrysudana. VPS is not really a good solution. There are several things to consider. What kind of site do you have? (Is it consuming excessive bandwidth or CPU when you have lots of visitors) Was your site posted on a social bookmarking site? If so, then the traffic may be temporary and you don't need to worry much. As an alternative, you can also spread your site on several shared web hosts (not always possible?).

I am going to be honest. I think that the prices for dedicated servers for pretty high. You should look elsewhere if you are thinking about getting a server. Infact, I know another reputable host where you can get a managed server for half the price. PM me if you want more info. I don't want post the url publicly as it may be against the forum rules.

if you have no budget to get your own dedicated server, something you can do in order to hold more time... try investigate witch elements on your site consume your resources. and find how to keep the same concept and web elements with lower resources.

if you post the domain, i guess some of us could give you some suggestions (if there is any or if you are interested send me a private message), maybe we can make your site lost some pounds

I originally didn't have the money for a full dedicated so I got a virtual server. It is really nice in the aspect of the freedom that you have with setting your own rules (although there may be some base server rules like no IRC) and having full freedom to use what versions of software you want (such as cPanel 11 ).

Although there are some instances that you really need to get a dedicated server when you:
  1. Host a lot of sites (yes 20+ can be alot depending upon resources)
  2. Have excessive traffic or file space needs
  3. need to use cpu hogging programs such as java
  4. just enjoy freedom and power
